A FreightSnap Solution Case Study

Introduction

FreightSnap, a renowned provider of dimensioning solutions, collaborated with Daifuku Logistics Solutions to tackle a critical challenge faced by FedEx at Charles De Gaulle Airport in France. The objective was clear: deliver a tray-based non-conveyable freight handling solution that seamlessly measures irregular products at a rapid pace of 2 meters per second, all while complying with relevant Laws, Regulations, Codes, and Standards in France.

Dimensioning solutions refer to systems and technologies used to measure the size, weight, and sometimes other attributes of packages and freight. These solutions are crucial in logistics to ensure accurate billing, optimize storage, and streamline handling processes.

Main Challenges

In addition to the main objectives, FreightSnap was tasked with achieving a 99.8% accuracy level. Furthermore, to eliminate potential carrier charges, the solution needed to identify shipments that deviated from predefined criteria, such as size limitations and resolution quality. Central to this endeavor was the deployment of dynamic dimensioning systems capable of accurately capturing dimensions, photos, and weight, while excluding those of the tray itself.

  • Delivery of 5X dimensioning systems with the appropriate software parameters
  • Achieve a dimensioning capture performance of > 99.8% accuracy
  • Dimensioning accuracy/resolution, 10mm
  • Obtain OMIL Certification
  • Maximum Target Rate of Trays Passing Through an Individual Dimensioner System: 1,200 trays/hr (100% utilization)
  • The ability to control tray speed accordingly to maintain throughput

Dimensioning Solutions

Throughout the project, FreightSnap worked hand-in-hand with Daifuku and FedEx to understand their unique challenges and requirements and devised a comprehensive solution that not only met but exceeded expectations. Leveraging their expertise in dimensioning technology, FreightSnap crafted five OIML-certified dimensioners that were meticulously engineered to handle irregular, non-conveyable products with the desired precision and speed. The dimensioning system implemented a barcode scanning solution to streamline package identification and tracking. Complementing the dimensioning hardware, FreightSnap developed custom software that seamlessly integrated with the dimensioner, orchestrating real-time measurement, weighing, photographing, and scanning processes.

Dimensioning System Benefits

With FreightSnap’s solution in place, FedEx experienced a marked improvement in logistics efficiency, characterized by increased speed and accuracy. The automation of dimensioning and scanning processes drastically reduced manual errors, ensuring compliance with carrier regulations and mitigating extra charges for oversized packages. FreightSnap’s expertise in dimensioning technology and commitment to customization enabled the successful delivery of a tailored solution for FedEx. By partnering closely with Daifuku and understanding the specific needs of the project, FreightSnap provided a robust, efficient, and compliant dimensioning system that significantly enhanced FedEx’s logistics capabilities at Charles De Gaulle Airport.

Conclusion

FreightSnap’s collaboration with Daifuku and FedEx emphasizes the importance of customized dimensioning solutions in overcoming complex logistics challenges. By delivering a precise, compliant, and scalable solution, FreightSnap has set a benchmark for dimensioning technology in the logistics industry.
